As a fleet owner... I wish America had better options for cab-overs. Kenworth/Peterbilt have a class 7. annnnnd that’s about it.

Is it because of crash tests or just that we like big hoods?

I think it’s big hoods. And so many American trucks spend time on the highway when Euro and Asian trucks spent more time in town.

We have a fleet of crane trucks. We drive to the job site and the truck idles all day powering the crane, then we drive back to the shop. There are so many job sites that a truck 6 feet shorter would be a big big deal. We just don’t spend that much time on the highway.

Well europe and asia are a lot more densley populated than the usa so basically they are dealing with the same thing you are. Cab over crane trucks....new business opportunity for us. Lets go into crane manufacturing Drakkon.

Not crash tests, legislation. Much of the world restricts overall truck length so you maximise your load area.

Many trucks in North America spend weeks at a time on the road and so the drivers appreciate as much living space as they can get. I guess it then becomes traditional and truck makers make short haul trucks the same way.

Surprisingly to some weight limits in North America are low by international standards so their apparently larger trucks are hauling less.

Well that’s just some states. Here in Ontario you can damn near take anything. Praries too!!! It’s all about axles weight and they just make the trailers with 6-8 axels on the trailer. So on a 53 foot trailer you end up with 100 000 + lbs.
